My Story

Two mothers in our birthing class told me about homeschooling. They described the local home education alliance and invited me to a well-attended weekly soccer game in Central Park. While our toddlers played, I asked a lot of questions and learned about resources. I met teen-aged homeschoolers and listened to their plans for college. I began to wonder if I could homeschool.

Would my child receive a good education? How would I know what to do? With whom would he learn? How would we manage as a family if he was at home all day? Would he get into college?

Homeschooling came to me unexpectedly. I attended public and private schools. At Brown University, I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and studio art. From the School of Visual Arts, I received a Master of Fine Arts degree. If I hadn’t met those two mothers, our family might not have discovered homeschooling.

I chose to homeschool my three children until college. With each of them, I navigated the college search and application process, personalized the state requirements to align with our values and my child’s interests, and defined what a good education meant to us. Now, they are adults.

Where are you in the arc of your child’s education? Are you asking some of these same questions? Are you considering homeschooling for the first time?

Do you enjoy being with your children all day and learning with them? Have you decided to give homeschooling a try?

If you are homeschooling already, are you looking for one-on-one support? As a new academic year begins, are you ready? Would you like to work through some of the details with me?

I’d love to share my 25 years of experience with you. Homeschooling is a leap of faith and an opportunity to personalize learning for your child. Homeschooling is empowering!
